What is the Hot Rod project?
The Hot Rod project is a Year 10 cross-curricular project where students will design, build, and test Billy Carts.
Students will work collaboratively within their Design and Technology, Mathematics and Science classes to explore a range of different focus areas. They will have the opportunity to select the relevant concepts from different subject areas and apply them to the Billy Cart project. The aim of the project is to apply skills in different contexts, to increase student engagement and to promote cross-curricular interaction between KLA areas.

How does the project work?
The 2016 STEM project is a pilot program for Kildare Catholic College. The TAS department has written the teaching program and in collaboration with the Mathematics and Science departments identified areas that would be most beneficial for the teaching and learning through cross-curricular activities. It is designed for students to work in groups, using inquiry cycle learning and providing opportunities to apply new skills in a variety of contexts.
This website has been designed as the 'Hub' for project learning. Each subject area has created different modules that students will work through with their class. This also assists teachers in the consistent delivery of content and the use of common language across the Year 10 cohort.

How was the Hot Rod project conceived?
The Hot Rod project was conceived at Kildare and brainstormed and refined at a series of workshops at the Sydney University STEM Academy. It has been purposefully designed to link subject knowledge and skills in a creative and engaging way for our students. Our partnership with Sydney University provides us with a fantastic support network and resource that enables us to create a research supported unit of work.
